Summertime Saga - Getting Starting

There are 12 different routes in Summertime Saga as of version 0.17.5. They all begin with your character waking up for his first day back at college.

The Beginning of the Game

Before you can go forward in the game, you must first choose a name for your character. Only your first name is needed because this is how other characters can refer to you in the game.

You'll be able to pick between a 'Clean Game' with no advantages and a 'Cheats Allowed' game, which will allow you to start with unlimited money, skip mini games, and have maxed out stats while the game is still in alpha development.

This page walks you through the game's first few minutes, explaining the character's backstory and current state.

In the Beginning

Your father recently passed away due to a suspicious accident at age 40 leaving you orphaned. The police investigated the nature behind your father's death but no conclusive results were found. You've been taken in my an old friend of your father's who is now being pressured by some crooks over debt your father allegedly owes.

Today is your first day back at college after taking some time off to deal with your father's death and you have resolved to make enough money for your next semester's tuition, find out what happened to your father, and find a date for the Sorority Ball.

You'll then wake up and get ready for your first day back where control is granted to you to start exploring the world.

First Day

The first day where you have active control is mostly on rails to help show you important locations and teach you how to play the game.

You'll start the day in your room and for the most part, there's not too much to do in here. However, note the basic interface from the first screenshot.

Across the top of the screen from left to right are the following:

  • Map: Once it's unlocked, use this to travel to different locations.
  • Current Location and Day: Some events are predicated with being at a certain place at a certain day. Check individual walkthroughs for more information.
  • Time: There are four time periods in a day, and blue bars in the top-center state which period you're in.
  • Money, Phone, and Inventory: Managing your money, raising your stats, and holding and using items are the keys to dating the girls. Keep track of all that here.
  • Main Menu: For changing the options or exiting the game.

After familiarizing yourself with the interface, you can pick the cookie box off the couch to put in your backpack. You can also check on your broken computer and look through your telescope at the neighbors, but nothing is going on with them yet.

Head through the door to talk to Jenny who appears to be the daughter of the woman who has taken you in. After the conversation, you can change her name to something else or keep her as Jenny.

There's nothing to do with the two doors on this level so go downstairs and then into the kitchen to talk to your dad's old friend Debbie.

She will offer your breakfast but you decline as you are running late. Before you can go she explains that her friend Diane could use some help with her garden and it might be a good way for you to earn some money. If you want to you can also change Debbie's name.

You can now access the map which lets you travel to various locations and if you open it by clicking on the logo on the top left-hand corner of the screen you can travel to Erik's house. It's in the bottom-right corner of the map with a green roof, with your house adjacent to the right of it.

After a brief conversation with Erik you will unlock the school as a new location so use your map once again to travel there with Erik. It's the prominent purple-roofed building in the dead center of the map. Continue reading about Day 1 at School by clicking the link.
